New strategies to support Colombian onion growers

The Agrarian Bank will expand financing for onion growers in crisis.
The Colombian National Government has implemented measures to support onion producers affected by the crisis in the sector. These actions include strengthening key institutions such as the DIAN (National Tax and Customs Directorate), the ICA (Colombian Agricultural Institute) and the ADR (Rural Development Agency), with the aim of ensuring the protection of farmers and combating problems such as smuggling and unfair trade practices.
Producers have raised concerns about low prices in the market, smuggling and other disadvantageous practices. In response, Trade Minister Luis Carlos Reyes asked farmers to file a request to investigate possible subsidies on onion imports, with the goal of promoting a fairer and more balanced market.
Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister Martha Carvajalino announced strategies with the Agrarian Bank to expand financing aimed at onion producers. This will include greater guarantees and financial tools to provide greater capacity for action to farmers.
These measures seek to mitigate the effects of the onion crisis and strengthen national onion production, ensuring fairer and more sustainable conditions for producers throughout the country.
