The Chapada Diamantina region establishes itself as the main producing area.
Bahia, traditionally a powerhouse in agribusiness, strengthens its leadership in fruit production in Brazil, particularly in passion fruit. According to a local source, the state led national production in 2023 with 253,900 tons, representing an 8.3% increase from the previous year.
The Chapada Diamantina region emerges as the main passion fruit producing area in Bahia. The municipality of Livramento de Nossa Senhora, located in this zone, is the largest Brazilian producer, with 44,395 tons in 2023, despite a slight 5% drop from the previous harvest. Other municipalities such as Ituaçu and Barra da Estiva also hold prominent positions, each contributing approximately 30,000 tons.
Bahia's climate, with high temperatures and abundant sunshine, coupled with its diverse soils and water resources, favors the cultivation of passion fruit. These factors, combined with proper agricultural practices and investment in technology, have been key to the region's fruit production success.
