Morocco's citrus production and exports are experiencing a decline in volume.
Citrus fruits constitute a significant portion of Morocco's fruit and vegetable exports. However, various factors have hampered their growth.
Local media report that according to Maroc Citrus, citrus exports average around 650,000 tons per year, generating approximately 3 billion MAD (303.8 million USD) in revenue.
However, various weather challenges, including drought, frost, and temperature fluctuations, have impacted citrus production and quality, leading to a decline in export volumes.
Additionally, mandarin shipments to Russia have nearly ceased due to political tensions. International market competition has intensified, and Moroccan citrus suffers from a lack of export variety diversification compared to products from producing countries that have invested in more productive and resilient varieties.
