Brazilian avocados to reach new international markets
VU
São Paulo leads the plan to export with safety and quality.
The Agricultural Defense Coordinator (CDA) of the Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply (SAA) of São Paulo will implement measures in 2025 to facilitate the export of Hass avocados to Japan and Chile. This initiative follows agreements between Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) and the phytosanitary authorities of the importing countries.
To meet the requirements of the destination markets, phytosanitary measures will be adopted to prevent the introduction of pests absent in those countries. These measures include:
-Controlling and monitoring fruit ripening levels to prevent the introduction of Mediterranean fruit fly(Ceratitis capitata) into Japan;
-Implement risk mitigation management for the fruit borer(Stenoma catenifer
Phytosanitary Certification of Origin will support compliance with these requirements, and Defensa Agropecuaria will be responsible for ensuring their implementation.
For exports to Japan, procedures are being finalized and will be available to interested parties in January.
The procedures for exporting to Chile have been finalized, and properties have begun to register at the regional offices of Defensa Agropecuaria, following the established deadlines. The necessary documents and procedures are available on the CDA website.
