Orange production in Florida reaches historic low since 1930

Diseases and natural disasters devastate the state's citrus production.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has forecast orange production in Florida for the current season at 12 million boxes, the lowest figure since 1930. This decline is attributed to Hurricane Milton, which severely affected citrus growing areas in the state.
This estimate represents a decrease of three million boxes from the October forecast and 33% less than last season's production. Nationally, total U.S. orange production is expected to be 60.6 million boxes, the lowest since 1937.
In addition to hurricane damage, Florida's citrus industry faces challenges due to diseases such as citrus greening, which has significantly reduced acreage over the past two decades.
