Liangping’s pomelo industry is rising

The Liangping pomelo, renowned alongside the Shatian and Wendan varieties, is one of China’s top pomelo types. Liangping earned the title "Hometown of Famous Chinese Pomelos" in 2004, recognizing its significant role in the industry.
According to Liu Wenyang, deputy head of Liangping, the district's pomelo industry generates an annual value of 5 billion yuan ($717 million). Liangping cultivates pomelos across 10,000 hectares, with over 100 standardized orchards and eight million trees producing 200,000 metric tons annually. The industry is supported by 70 service organizations and 20 processing enterprises.
The Liangping pomelo is gaining global recognition. The fruit is exported to markets like Vietnam, Russia, Singapore, and South Korea.
To enhance pomelo quality and yield, the China Liangping Pomelo Industry Research Institute was established through a collaboration between the Liangping District government and Southwest University's Citrus Research Institute. The institute focuses on advancing cultivation techniques and driving industry innovation. This initiative aims to strengthen the pomelo sector, a key contributor to the local economy with growing international recognition.
